Dining Hall Cookies
When some foods are cooked, they look completely different than they did when they went into the oven. Sometimes they change in size, sometimes in color, and often in both ways! Try making some delicious cookies so you can see the changes for yourself.
Do the cookies feel different?
Do they smell different?
Are they the same size and shape?
Get ready . . .
1/4 cup (59 ml) crunchy peanut butter
1/4 cup (59 ml) margarine
1/8 cup plus 1 teaspoon (34.5 ml) brown sugar
1/4 cup (59 ml) granulated sugar
1 egg, wooden spoon and mixer
1/2 cup (118 ml) sifted flour
Get set, go!
1. Stir together the peanut butter, margarine, and the sugars.
2. Ask an adult to help beat the flour and egg into the peanut butter mixture.
3. Roll the mixture into small balls--about the size of walnuts. Place them a couple of inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
4. Ask an adult to bake the cookies in an oven at 350 °F (177 °C) for about 10 minutes. Put the cookies on a rack to cool.
