Surf the Ages

Surf the Ages images what it would be like if the Internet had existed since ancient times. Users can surf through simulated historical Web sites that take the form of articles, advertisements, and personal Web pages, complete with many illustrations and maps.

Surf the Ages is divided into three time periods:

1. Ancient Times focuses on Ancient Egypt and Sumer, Greece, India, and Rome. Highlights include the 125th Annual Dio Awards, celebrating Greek theater; a Roman army recruitment page; and Chou's Home page, a personal page from a soldier stationed on the Great Wall of China.

2. Middle Ages spans the period from 1000-1499, broken down by century. Highlights include The Leif Spot, a Leif Ericson fan page; The Pointed Arch, an architecture e-zine (1299 edition); and the Explorers' Bulletin Board, where explorers can exchange notes.

3. Modern Times is also broken down by century, from 1500-1999. Highlights include a guide to the valley of Mexico, an employment ad from Mozart, and The Poster Board, advertising posters from the 1800's. It also includes A Look Back, where experts in various fields show their selection of the 10 most important developments of the 1900's.

4. View from Today gives background information when the user clicks on any highlighted item. It also supplies links to related WBORC articles.
