Atlas The Atlas is an up-to-date source of full-color maps of the world, continents, countries, states and provinces, and many cities. A user can navigate through the Atlas by clicking labels on the maps. Many of the articles in WBORC include links to maps. 1. Maps include one or more of the following cartographic features: a scale, latitude and longitude designations, major highways and streets, and a legend. A small locator map appears below the main map, which allows the user to see a location in relation to the surrounding area. 2. Many of the locations of WBORC's maps are linked to other content. For example, on the map of Africa, clicking on the "Congo (Kinshasa)" label will display a new Atlas page showing the map of Congo. On the Congo map, clicking on the Kinshasa label will display the World Book article about the city. A list of all the links appears in a column to the left of the map. 3. In addition to political maps, WBORC includes other types of maps for many countries, including population density, economy, and average temperature.
