My kids are big nonfiction fans. They love learning about new things and often get obsessed about a specific topic (e.g. cars, trucks, trains, snakes, beavers, etc.) for months at at time. We bought the 2013 edition of the World Book Discovery Encyclopedia for $99. What great value! While this version is "dated", not a ton changes over the span of 5 years esp when the topics are treated only at a high level. My kids (5 and 3) love looking at the pictures, reading the captions, and learning about these new ideas. Oddly enough, I find that they thirst for more depth in the treatment of some of these topics than what is provided in the encyclopedia. But they do appreciate the breadth and are learning how to "look up" concepts in this book. I'm glad World Book is still publishing a print version of these books. Focus and attention is so much greater on print than digital esp at this age.
