This was purchased as a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. She will be getting it in a few days. More importantly is the question why I purchased it in the first place? I purchased it because my parents bought it for me when I was a child and it was one of the best gifts I have ever received! I used the books constantly and read them for hours on end. I gained enormous knowledge from them and it sparked my imagination and love of reading. Giving the gift of a set of World Book Encyclopedias is one of the greatest things you can do for a child. They have enough toys, give them the gift of knowledge and it's something they will use for years! Best money you'll ever spend...

Always the best

Buying a brand new edition of World Book Encyclopedia is the one thing I have had on my bucket list. I remember having encyclopedias in the house as a kid and I remember using them extensively. So I always wanted to buy my own. Life got in the way. But now, anticipating retirement, I finally have made the purchase. I am extremely impressed with the depth and completion of the articles. In this age of internet searching, it is comforting to go to World Book and know that what I am reading has been well vetted. Thank you World Book for an exceptional product. And I love the commemorative edition spine scene. It would certainly dress up any bookcase as it has in my living room.

Love the content - not the size.

Cons:
I grew up with a set of World Book Encyclopedias and upon retirement wanted to add the 100 Year Commemorative 2017 Edition to my library. I was a bit taken aback when I received them due to the shrinkage that has occurred since my 1960's version. The books and the print is much smaller than they used to be. As a senior, they are quite hard to read comfortably due to the smaller fonts.

I know the information will be stellar and hope that I'm able to challenge myself to explore them regularly in order to feed my brain but have concerns. Sorry that they have shrunk so much.

Loved having a hard copy encyclopedia set

It is easy to access online material, but there is no replacement for literally having information in your hand, and having vetted information. The World Book set is beautiful. It is nice to be able to pick up a volume and just browse the various encyclopedia entries. It's a great way to discover new information.
