Strategies to encourage your little one's curiosity

While the big kids are gearing up for a new school year, little brothers and sisters might start showing curiosity in learning new skills as well. It’s never too early to think encourage a love of reading! World Book created the Welcome to Reading series to introduce your child to reading and critical thinking.

When you introduce young readers to reading, think about using these strategies to encourage curiosity:

  • Before reading the book, ask your child to look at the cover image and title to guess what the book is about.
  • After reading a couple of pages, ask your child to predict what he or she thinks will happen next.
  • Ask your child what he or she would do in the situations the characters find themselves in before reading the end.
  • After you and your child have read the entire book, ask your child what might happen if there was a sequel.
